The Luzon Datum of 1911

Hey guys!!! It's me again, your furry guide, The Island Bunny.

Okay, after a small stop over at the Balanacan View Deck, why don't we go to the nearest tourist spot? We don't even have to go to other barrios yet. Why? because near the Balanacan Port, we can already find a great tourist attraction and take note, it is one place with a special participation in the Philippine History. If you are excited already, then LET'S GO!!! To the LUZON DATUM!!!

Oh!!! There's an arrow. I was afraid we will get lost. Phew... It means we are in the right track. Let's continue hopping.

But while we are getting there, I've said earlier that it is a historical place. Let me tell you first the reason for it being historical.

The Luzon Datum of 1911 was the location for the first triangulation of the Philippine Islands. The government began to plan the survey of islands in March 1900 when America sent the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USCGS) officer to Manila carrying an assignment to prepare a report on the existing cartographic conditions in the Philippines. Another reason is to obtain all necessary data for the implementation of geodetic, hydrographic, and topographic surveys in the country. The execution of the modern survey of the Philippine Islands extended over almost the same time as the history of the American occupation in the Philippines.

The USCGS started the triangulation in the Philippine Islands in January 1901 right after the Manila Field Station, which was housed in the old Intendencia Building in the Walled City of Intramuros was established. During that time, a revolt was in progress and the Islands were under the law of the military. The triangulation were conducted under a joint agreement between the USCGS and the Insular Government. The USCGS established several survey networks all over the country from 1901 up to 1911, in which those triangulation had different origins. In 1911, the Luzon Datum was established after those field surveys with different origins were consolidated into one nationwide network. It was stationed in Balanacan. Then after that, the Luzon Datum became the primary geodetic reference of all field triangulation in the Philippines.

Well, enough about history. Let's go to the actual place where it all happened.

Within 22 to 25 mins and 8.3 km of travel by foot, you can get to the Geodetic Center of Philippines from Balancan Port.

So let us try to get there as quickly as we can so we can savor this great journey.

This is the actual place itself. With another great view of the sea, we can have a mesmerizing experience once we get to Luzon Datum. The tiring walk will be replaced by a refreshing and soothing experience.

This is the Geodetic Spot or the Triangulation.

Again, another beautiful place was visited by our furry little feet. After this, we will go to our next destination. And that is.....

Well, I will make it a surprise for you. I don't want to spoil anything.

What did you think of our Luzon Datum experience? Was it fun?

Leave you feedback and let's hop in to our next travel spot.

LET'S GO!!!
