Suman from Mogpog: A good treat for our journey

We have been to many different travel destinations and I know your tummies have been rumbling. So how about a taste of a good native food from Marinduque.

A sticky treat for everyone, this is what we call "SUMAN". It is made of sticky rice "malagkit" wrapped inside a leaf "in some places, they use banana leaves, but here in Marinduque, we use palm leaves". It is cooked by simmering the sticky rice into the coconut milk and water with a little bit of salt and sugar.

Wait, I forgot. This is not a cooking tutorial. We are here to know something about this delicious treat and how to enjoy it while travelling. You can find this food anywhere. Especially in the main town markets. There are also some varieties of suman, like the brown suman of Sta. Cruz, or the "Sumang Balinghoy" cassava suman.

You can enjoy this treat by itself but if you want to level it up, you can eat it with some sauce or toppings of your choice. For, example, you can eat this after dipping it into sugar, some eat it with poured sweetened condensed milk. But this food really do pair well with what we call "kalamay hati" or coconut jam.

After you taste it, I'm sure SUMAN will be one of your favorite past time and breakfast treat.

And there you have it, SUMAN. One of the native foods that can be found here in Marinduque. Go ahead and buy some and we will bring it as a snack for our next destination.

Are you all ready? Let's GO!!!
